NBA Competition, Sapporo 2016

The Nihon Ballet Association (NBA) Competition is a prestigious ballet competition which awards annual scholarships to leading dance schools worldwide. Launched 1993 by Artistic Director Koichi Kubo, who was a principal dancer with the Colorado Ballet, and with the support of the NPO NBA Ballet and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the competition is held annually in several prefectures in Japan with the final being held in Tokyo.
The NBA Junior Ballet Competition is open to dance students of all nationalities from 9 to 20 years of age. The competition has a long history of producing winners who have gone on to achieve world recognition on international platforms such as Prix de Lausanne.

This year, representatives from the Cheng Ballet Junior Company, participated in the Sapporo edition of the competition on August 6. We are happy to announce the following stellar results: Four 1st Prize winners, Two 2nd Prize winners and Two 3rd Prize Winners.

In addition , both Mr & Mrs Cheng received Best Coaching Awards in all the four divisions the academy participated in. And all our representatives who competed in Sapporo have been shortlisted to compete in the NBA Competition finals to be held in Tokyo in January 2017.

Although this is the academy's 3rd appearance at the NBA Competition, we had on board, academy dancers who were making their debut at the NBA Competition. They had truly learnt a lot from the thriving ballet competition scene in Japan and we are most grateful for the warm welcome extended from the officials and organizers of the NBA Ballet Competition. Thank you everyone for your graciousness and support! See you in Tokyo in 2017!

Our summer sojourn to Japan's competitions has brought about many learning experiences for our dancers due to the competitive environment and foreign surroundings. We believe that it has made our participants hardier and stronger in the midst of enjoying the camaraderie and friendship offered by our campatriots in Japan,

We wish to extend our heatfelt thanks to all our friends, parents and supporters. We will continue to strive for even better results!
