As a concerned parent or an enthusiastic student, we understand that there are many considerations to be made when choosing the right dance academy to train in. You would want to make the most out of your (or your child's) abilities and further stretch your (or his/her) potential. To help you get to know Cheng Ballet Academy better, we are creating the FAQ series where we feature common queries that we've received from parents and students. We hope to field one question every couple of weeks, so do keep a lookout for updates on this page.

Question 1Cheng Ballet Academy does offer classes from the CSTD (Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus and participating students are indeed required to sit for the graded examinations. However, the number of classes offered are limited by the number of students who wish to take the examinations. Please do refer to our class schedule for the graded classes available.

We highly recommend that our students attend our mainstream classes in conjunction with the graded exam syllabus as we believe that children benefit highly from exposure beyond a fixed syllabus.

From our experience, we find that our students are highly adaptable and are able to absorb new information and technique like sponges. (Do pardon the comparison!) And to help our young dancers learn in a suitable class environment, students are grouped into sessions (A or B classes) according to their levels and abilities so that everyone learns at the same instructional pace and has access to the ballet teacher's attention in a fair manner.

Our mainstream syllabus is crafted out of our founders' dance philosophy and based on their joint professional ballet experience. Therefore, students will be exposed to ballet techniques used outside the classroom, employed by real-life performing professionals and also to a range of classical styles such as the Vaganova (Russian), the Cecchetti (Italian), the Bournonville (Danish) and the French School styles.

We sincerely hope that our approach brings out the best in all our students. Trial classes are also available if you are unsure if our pedagogy is right for you.
